2008 Central Valley Youth Organizing Summit

“No Child Left Behind . . . . . Bars”

POSTPONED Until Fall 2008

San Joaquin Delta College • Stockton, California

April 10, 2008

Dear Presenters, Registrants, Funders and other supporters of 2008 ESPINO Youth Summit,

I’m sorry to inform you that the 2008 ESPINO Central Valley Youth Organizing Summit must be postponed. On behalf of the Steering Committee, I extend our regrets and apologize for any inconvenience this postponement might cause. The Steering Committee will meet ASAP and move in the direction of rescheduling a Fall date for this very needed and important Summit. We have made great strides with our outreach to youth sources and networking with political and service organizations on a national level. We will make use of our expanded resources and developed connections to educational agencies and youth oriented non-profits to make a Fall 2008 Summit have even more impact.

If you were signed up as a presenter or registered as a participant please respond to this letter to confirm receipt and you will be contacted soon with the new date. If you were not, please fill out the form below and return to us and you will be placed on our mailing list.

. If you have any questions about the summit and/or would like to know more about the summit in detail please contact James Walsh at (209) 981-0544.

Lucha, Amor, y Salud (In Struggle, Love and Health),

James Walsh

P.S. Keep in mind, the summit intends to bring together youth from throughout the Central Valley in order to learn from one another and to strategize for social change. It is our hope that the summit will inspire campaign(s) in the Central Valley that will address the issues of Youth Justice, Education Equity, and Youth Organizing. The summit will be multicultural and most of all fun. Although there is an intergenerational bent and adults can participate by actively listening, the summit is intended for youth who are organizers or may have the potential to be organizers and want to learn more about organizing.

Any questions about the conference, please contact James by phone at (209) 981-0544or by email at jwprod1956@clearwire.net.

ABOUT ESPINO
History: Escuelas Si! Pintas No! Youth Organizing for Equal Justice and Education (ESPINO) is a Central Valley-wide coalition that includes partners of the Central Valley Partnership (CVP). ESPINO’s foundation grew out of the CVP’s Education Committee and originated in spring of 2003. Escuelas Si! Pintas No! addresses the schools to jails pipeline that many underrepresented youth face in the Central Valley and promotes access to education as well as alternatives to incarceration.
Vision: ESPINO’s vision is to create progressive and positive systemic change in an effort to create equal justice and education in the Central Valley.
Mission: ESPINO’s mission is to enhance and support a Central Valley-wide Youth Organizing Movement, which promotes community health, while strengthening and mobilizing the human and collective potential of under-represented communities of the Central Valley.
